Wednesday, July 6: Whew -- we made it!

Well, one 10 hour overnight flight later – and this time ZERO sleep – we find ourselves FINALLY in Australia. But it’s 8:30 am in Brisbane and we have one more flight to get us to our final destination of Cairns (Cans). We were planning to get a couple of hotel rooms to crash in before our 6 pm flight but we had the misfortune of arriving on the day of the biggest game (what sport we have yet t0 determine) of the year and there are no hotel rooms available. So the Billabong Express – I’ll get the proper definition of Billabong but it’s something like a dead-end stream – has cordoned off an area of couches at the Brisbane Airport, drinking short, long, black, white coffees (I guess that’s how you order coffee here) and contemplating the use of the airport showers. Some of our group think they smell a bit.
